Sabre Airlines Solutions (AS) is used by approximately 225 airlines including network carriers, hybrids and low cost carriers, primarily through Software as a Service (SaaS) and hosted models. AS provides lower cost of ownership, flexibility and scalability as airlines grow and powers everything from reservations systems to crew scheduling and provide insights and tools. For example, Intelligence Exchange enables airlines to generate incremental revenue, reduce costs and deliver a truly personalized experience to travelers.

In December, 2016 Sean Menke was promoted to President and CEO and he is in the process of delivering on his business strategy. The organization recruited a new President for the Airline Solutions business as well as new leaders for IT and technology. The company is decentralizing product development, moving those leaders into each of the three business units so they can more effectively provide solutions within product design standards.

The Position

Location

Sabre's corporate headquarters, Southlake, Texas (in the Dallas/Fort Worth area).

Position Summary

This senior executive role is responsible for delivering solutions for Airline Solutions Business in a way that is attentive to cost, quality and speed. The successful candidate will contribute to the technical vision of solutions development and product delivery, as aligned with Sabre's strategic direction, growth objectives and values. This role requires multisite location management, experience building a high performing team, upgrading Product architecture into a SaaS/Cloud environment, modernizing from older proprietary code sets, a good Agile and Scrum understanding, depth in automation framework, broad software portfolio launch and release experience and crisis recovery experience.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the President of Airline Solutions and leads a large team of over 1,300 in global locations.

Travel

50% international travel is required to include flight times in excess of 12+ hours

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership to software engineering and product development initiatives for the Airline Solutions business with a focus on delivering high quality solutions quickly and profitably.
  • Adept at leveraging technical expertise across the multiple product lines and a digital marketplace to ensure the products and solutions being developed and delivered serve the current and future needs of the business.
  • Contribute to the transformation from waterfall to agile development as part of the broader Legacy system modernization initiative. Use the agile methodology for product development and enhancements from evaluation through identification of scope, objectives, risks, drivers, issues and priorities for the group. Establish an agile and nimble process structure that enables Sabre to respond quickly to changing customer and market conditions.
  • Drive the entire portfolio to a digital modernization including Cloud, Mobile, Big Data and a robust Microservices API offering
  • Contribute to the vision for the technology roadmap to be integrated across all business units and applications to keep the company innovative. Develop a point of view on key technical issues and articulate vision in ways that will be highly valued by the company and technology community.
  • Able to integrate large, complex acquisitions into the technology platform and product roadmap.
  • Build a spirit of collaboration and cooperation within the Airline Solutions business and across the enterprise to fully understand the product and solution needs. Work with marketing teams to ensure products are not only technically sound but commercially viable. Partner with product management and other stakeholders to drive planning of the product roadmap and release plans, and deliver on schedule.
  • Provide technology strategy overview and enhanced understanding of product portfolio and capabilities to potential customers during commercial pursuits.
  • Recruit, motivate, and develop a superior team of technology experts who can lead innovation efforts in different niches of expertise and industry opportunity. Lead the team of talented technology minds which will help architect, design, and test new offerings.
  • Champion a client experience model that delivers excellent, is recognized by the industry as world class, and is evidenced by high client satisfaction, sustained client retention, and expanded penetration of Sabre products.
  • Lead and operate with a results-driven, bottom-line orientation. Delivery continuous process improvements to Airline Solutions products.

Professional Qualification

  • 15+ years' progressive software engineering and technology management experience with a minimum of 5+ years in a Senior Executive role overseeing large scale IT budgets and initiatives. This could be a CTO or divisional CTO position or head of engineering, software development or product development
  • Demonstrated history of successfully leading globally distributed teams in excess of 1,300 people.
  • Broad and deep technical experience developing enterprise software and systems, preferably for a B2B2C marketplace or a combination of experience in B2B and B2C environments.
  • Proven track record of hiring, developing, retaining and upgrading technical talent with a keen focus on appropriately leveraging contract labor to supplement resource ramp needs (up or down).
  • Proven results integrating acquisitions onto the technology platform and into the product strategy.
  • Experienced at modernizing Legacy systems including the technical and change management aspects that accompany transformative change.
  • Proven track record of evolving a software engineering or systems development shop from waterfall to agile methodology. Able to foster a culture of agile engineering excellence, curiosity and innovation.
  • Capable of helping push the boundaries of strategic opportunities, but disciplined enough to oversee day-to-day operational and performance needs.
  • Engage personally with both suppliers, buyers and other industry experts to improve knowledge base and better support the business. Provide support to commercial pursuits serving as the technology product expert in business development meetings.
  • Adept at building collaborative and productive relationships along all points of the product development process including marketing and product management within the business lines.
  • Well experienced in working globally on strategic initiatives that have significant geographic reach and major potential impact on top line growth.
  • Past success in recognizing and leveraging the content and technical synergies among the product portfolio as new product ideas are developed. Able to take a wholistic view of offerings and capabilities and re-use rather than re-invent as appropriate.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. A master's degree in a technical discipline is highly desired.
