CTC/SC/DV Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks

What if you could work on something that you can't test but cannot afford to fail? Something that could have spent years on a submarine, is launched into outer space (where the temperature is below -250c), comes hurtling through the atmosphere, being heated up and shaken and then must work? Some challenge.

That's exactly what the team of over 6,500 people at AWE do every day: delivering important work, in support of the most important mission - keeping the nation safe.

AWE plays a crucial role in national nuclear security. Their role in nuclear deterrence and their specialist technical assistance to nuclear threat reduction is vital in the defence against the most serious threats faced by the UK. Working to support the defence of our country, AWE has a clear mission: to keep everyone, the environment, their products and information, sites, and everything around them, safe and secure.

As a Security Advisor, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Monitor the application of MOD security policies and any other relevant standards, reporting on any area where a shortfall is identified, or a possible amendment to policy required.
  • Support the conduct of assurance activity to ensure the correct application of security policies and the maintenance of security standards across the Security Operational Area.
  • Contribute to the ongoing review of existing security policies and processes to enable the maintenance of security standards that are both proportionate and relevant to the threat.
  • Assist in the mitigation and monitoring of security risks identified within the Security Operational Area.
  • Assess the performance and effectiveness of security elements as directed, to include the conduct of facility security audits, and advise the Security Manager of where corrective action and improvements are needed.
  • Contribute to the conduct of security operations and training within the Security Operational Area.
  • Support Company projects through engagement with stakeholders, the provision of advice in interpreting existing security requirements, and guidance on the application of security policies for construction enclaves.

  • Candidates need to be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five years for SC clearance (and ten years for DV). We may consider dual nationality for certain roles.
